Arkas – EURODUAL Locomotives

AIL advised Stadler on the structuring and arranging of a long-term export financing of five EURODUAL locomotives for the Turkish company Arkas Logistics.

Arkas Logistics was founded in 1989 and is part of the Turkish Arkas Group, an international logistics company offering sea, land, rail and air transportation services.

The six-axle Stadler EURODUAL locomotive has both an electric and a diesel-electric drive. It can therefore be used on both electrified and non-electrified railway lines, which is an optimal solution for Turkey.

The financing of the 5 locomotives consists of a long-term export credit of EUR 39 million covered by the Swiss Export Risk Insurance SERV with the German KfW IPEX-Bank acting as lender. The SERV credit insurance enabled Arkas Logistics to obtain financing with a long tenor at an attractive interest margin, which was a key factor in the realization of the project.
